You got something from us and you did not ask for it
That is unsettling, and being suspicious about it is the correct instinct. Here is exactly where your information came from, how to check that we are a real company, and how to make it stop.

Where we got your address
When a lender starts the foreclosure process, it records a document at your county recorder's office. Depending on your state it is called a Notice of Default, a Notice of Trustee's Sale, or a Notice of Sale. That filing is a public record, the same as a deed or a property tax record.
Companies buy lists of those filings from the county or from data vendors. That is how we got your name and address, and it is how everyone else who has been contacting you got it too. We did not get it from your bank, your servicer, a credit report, or anyone you have spoken to.
This also means something useful

How to check that we are real
Do not take our word for it. Any of these work, and none of them require talking to us.
Call the number on the letter and ask questions
Our number is (844) 655-1903. Ask who owns the company, what we charge, and what happens to your information. If any answer is evasive, hang up.
Check us with your state consumer protection office
Every state we work in has one, and complaints against a company are public.
Call a HUD-approved housing counselor instead
1-800-569-4287. It is free, they are independent, and they will tell you whether what we said matches what they would say.
Ask us to put it in writing
A legitimate company will send you its terms before you agree to anything. One that will not is telling you something.
What an actual scam looks like
You are going to hear from a lot of people right now. These are the things that should end a conversation immediately.
They ask for money up front
Charging an advance fee for mortgage relief is illegal under federal law for most companies. This one rule eliminates most bad actors.
They guarantee they can save your home
Nobody can guarantee that. Your lender decides, and no third party controls that decision.
They tell you to stop talking to your lender
Or to stop opening its mail, or to send your payments to them instead. All three are serious warning signs.
They want you to sign over the title
Signing a deed to a stranger to rescue you is one of the oldest and most damaging foreclosure scams there is.
They pressure you to decide today
Your deadline is real. The urgency someone manufactures on a phone call usually is not.
If you want us to stop contacting you
Call (844) 655-1903 and say the words take me off your list. That is enough. You do not have to explain yourself, answer any questions, or listen to an offer first. We will remove you and you will stop hearing from us.
We cannot remove you from anyone else's list, and we cannot remove the public record that put you on them. Other companies will keep writing to you. That is not us ignoring your request.
What we are, plainly
Homeowner Recovery Options is not associated with the government, and our service is not approved by the government or your lender.
We do not charge you any fee for reviewing your situation or explaining your options.
You may stop doing business with us at any time.
You have the right to contact your lender, a lawyer, or a HUD-approved housing counselor directly at any time, and we encourage it.
We are affiliated with Property Seller Solutions, a company that buys homes. If selling turns out to be the right answer for you, we may offer to buy yours. You are under no obligation to accept, and we will tell you when listing with an agent is likely to net you more money than selling to us.
